Lose The Litter

Come Together as a Community
Join The Lions Club of Newtown and your neighbors, friends, classmates or work colleagues to help clean-up our Newtown roads.

Tackle the Trash
Wake up early and meet us at the Middle School – we’ll provide garbage bags, gloves, and other supplies at our Newtown Lions Club booth. You can choose a road to clean-up or we’ll suggest one for you. If you cannot make it to the Middle School that morning, we can provide cleaning supplies in advance.

Letter to The Editor (2022)

To the Editor

Many thanks go to you, the good people of Newtown, who made the Newtown Lions Club’s Lose the Litter Day such a success last Saturday as part of Newtown’s Earth Day celebration. Well over 100 people cleaned our roads. Some came alone, others with a family, and there were a number of larger groups as well. Among the larger groups were the Police Cadets, the Newtown High School Girls Softball team, Newtown Yoga Center, Scout Troop 270, and the Catherine Violet Hubbard group.

Thirty-five Newtown roads are much cleaner now. Some of the longest roads like Walnut Tree Hill, Taunton Hill, Currituck, and Hanover were only partially cleaned. But the rest of the thirty-five roads we attacked were cleaned from beginning to end.

Thanks also go to Katherine Simpson who helped in many ways including making sure that various town agencies knew of Lose the Litter Day and would promote it. Thanks also go to those agencies who did just that. Finally, we appreciate our Lions Club where twelve of our members cleaned roads while other Lions were taking our Mustang to a car event. Still other Lions sold Duck Race tickets and manned a membership table at Earth Day. The Club really went all out that day.

But mostly I want to thank you, the good people of Newtown, who came forward and made our lovely Newtown cleaner and brighter.

Sincerely,

Gordon Williams
